The Glee Club is Taking Over the White House

Fox TV Glee Club cast invited to White House by Michelle Obama

The cast of FOX’s hit series, “Glee Club,” has been invited by the First Lady to perform at the annual White House Easter Egg Roll on April 5th.  It has been reported Michelle, Sasha, and Malia are huge fans of the show. The producers must be fans of the White House too–they’re going to adjust their production schedule to accomodate the request.

In other TV news,  Mike Huckabee’s interview with Michelle scored his “Huckabee” show its lowest ratings ever. Interesting but not all that surprising.

2010 Governors’ Ball Recap; No Drama Between First Lady and Huckabee During Her First Appearance on Fox News

First Lady Michelle Obama 2010 Governors Ball Music Preview

First Lady Michelle Obama 2010 Governors Ball

The First Couple hosted their second Governors’ Ball yesterday (Sunday, February 21, 2010). Earlier in the day, the First Lady hosted a musical preview of the Governors’ Ball for Washington, DC’s Miner Elementary School’s glee club members. Harry Connick, Jr. spoke to the students about this love of music and his hometown, New Orleans. The kids were also treated to a musical set with the singer and his band.

Later, the nation’s governors and their spouses attended the annual black-tie event in the White House’s State Dining Room. The menu included traditional fare such as rib eye roast and baked Alaska.  As far as the First Lady’s attire – it looks like she had a change of heart. At the preview, she said she would wear white but ended up wearing a black gown by Thakoon.

The highly-anticipated interview with Mike Huckabee and Michelle aired over the weekend on Fox News. It was a big shock the First Lady even agreed to the interview considering the network isn’t a big fan of the Obama administration. The 20-minute appearance was part of her media tour to promote her childhood obesity campaign, “Let’s Move.” Topics such as exercise and healthy eating were all discussed. Hear are some highlights:

Does she watch Fox News:
The living quarters are a “news-free zone.” However, she noted she would watch her interview on Saturday.

Why did she choose to focus on childhood obesity:
“…This is a solvable issue because it’s community based…it doesn’t require new technology or new research; we the solutions in our hand.”

“Huckabee” is a regular Fox News program hosted by the former Arkansas governor and possible 2012 Republican presidential nominee.

Details of Christmas Day with the Obamas

Obamas arrive in Hawaii December 24, 2009

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas!

As you know by now, the Obamas skipped a white Christmas in Washington to celebrate the holidays in sunny Hawaii. They boarded Air Force One on Thursday with winter gear but they stepped off the plane dressed for 80 degree temperatures awaiting them. Michelle changed into a sleeveless blue dress (designer unknown at this time). Reportedly, they were joined by immediate family (including the President’s sister, Maya Soetero-Ng, her husband, Konrad Ng) and at least two sets of friends from Chicago, senior adviser Valerie Jarrett and National Security Council Chief of Staff Denis McDonough.

On Christmas day, the first couple went to the gym at 6:40 AM (!!) and stayed for more than hour. When they returned back to their rented estate, all of the kids opened gifts. According to the White House, the first couple didn’t exchange gifts but we think they probably did so privately and didn’t want to share the details with the public.  The Christmas meal consisted of roast beef and potatoes, a tradition for the family.

Mid-afternoon, Michelle accompanied the President to visit the Marine Corps base near their home and shook hands with troops for about half an hour.

At an appearance at the Children’s Medical Center, Michelle mentioned there were 26 Christmas trees scattered around the White House so why not post pictures of the decorations they left behind and a look back at a few festivities, appearances, etc…

Last week at the Kennedy Center Honors event, the First Lady once again wowed us with a gorgeous purple pleated strapless gown by Chicago-based designer Peter Soren. It wasn’t the first time she’s worn Soren, but this bold number is sure to get  him more recognition.

The President and Michelle Obama Attend Fort Hood Memorial

Yesterday, President Obama and the First Lady attended the memorial service for 13 U.S. soldiers killed last week at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas.

During his speech, the President noted the person responsible for the tradegy would be held accountable for his actions and also mentioned each fallen soldier by name.

The alleged gunman and Army psychiatrist, Major Nidal Malik Hasan is recovering in a San Antonio hospital.

Such a sad story.

FLOTUS a No-Show at Glamour Magazine Awards

Fashion Michelle Obama Glamour First Lady 44It wasn’t a big surprise but Mrs. Obama didn’t appear at last night’s celeb-filled Glamour Magazine Awards 2009 Women of the Year Awards in which she was honored with a Special Recognition award (and a December cover). Former president Bill Clinton, famed author Maya Angelou, paparazzi starlet (also R&B singer) Rihanna, media magnate Tyra Banks, and  journalists Euna Lee and Laura Ling were just a few of the who’s-who in Hollywood, politics, and fashion at the event.

Here are some non-First Lady photos from last night’s event. Enjoy.

P.S. The red cocktail dress and chunky, sterling silver necklace she wore on the cover were from her own closet and no designer was credited.  (oh well in a sad voice)

Michelle Obama to Host Iron Chef

Michelle Obama, First Lady, First Lady 44, WHite House kitchen, garden

In her effort to promote her healthy living agenda, Mrs. Obama has taped an episode of Iron Chef America at the White House which will air January 3, 2010.

The taping marks the first time a First Lady or any member of the White House staff has appeared on a TV reality show.

During this episode of the popular show, which paired Cristeta Comerford (Executive Chef at the White House) and Bobby Flay to compete against Mario Batali and Emeril Lagasse, Mrs. Obama talked about the importance of making vegetables a part of children’s diet. Vegetables from the White House garden were used to prepare the meals featured in the show.

British cook Nigella Lawson (think Rachel Ray), actress Jane Seymour, and American Olympic swimmer Natalie Coughlin served as judges.

Michelle Helps Sesame Street Celebrate 40th Anniversary

Michelle Obama, Sesame Street 40th anniversary

Tomorrow, the First Lady stops by Sesame Street to mark the children’s program 40th anniversary. While there, she’ll encourage kids to plant vegetables such as carrots, lettuce, and cucumbers.  Great message to promote. We have a feeling she’s going to start a “it’s cool to garden” trend.
